• How much light should I provide?
    African Violets require plenty of bright light - either natural or Fluorescent. If your choose natural light, place plants near a window that receives filtered light throughout the day, but avoid any direct sun light.
  • How should I water my African Violets?
    Regular Watering is a key factor for growing great African Violets. There are many ways to water African Violets. The most common methods include top or bottom watering, wicking, and self-watering pots.
  • What about fertilizer?
    A regular application of fertilizer helps African Violets develop strength and produce plenty of blossoms. Some fertilizers provide a balanced diet of overall health while others offer a formula to encourage blossoms. Alternate fertilizers to meet the plant’s needs. Dilute 1/8 to 1/4 tsp. of fertilizer to one gallon of room temperature water - for window-grown plants use 1/8 tsp. Remember to fertilize each time you water.
  • Should I use a special soil?
    Yes, use a soil-free commercial potting mix that contains peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. Even the lightest commercial mix can hold too much water, so add some perlite to ensure good drainage.
  • When should I repot my African Violets?
    Repot at least one or two times a year to stimulate growth and encourage the bloom cycle. African Violets like to be pot-bound, to produce blossoms, so choose pots that are 1/3 the size of the plant. Once a plant has achieved maturity, continue repotting into the same size container - rarely more than a 4 inch pot.
